ISSUE OF TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS ON MISSION PERSONNEL HIGHLIGHTED AS SIXTH COMMITTEE TAKES UP HOST COUNTRY COMMITTEE REPORT

The disturbing problem of travel restrictions on personnel of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation still remained unresolved, the representative of that country told the Sixth Committee (Legal) this morning.

As the Sixth Committee (Legal) today addressed the organization of its work for 2009, and reviewed the new system of administering justice at the United Nations, which had been introduced earlier this year and was generally welcomed, concerns were expressed about certain structural details of the new system, which is now subject to formalization by the General Assembly.

As the report of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) was taken up by the Sixth Committee (Legal) today, the Chairperson of the Commission, Soo Geun Oh (Republic of Korea) said that adoption of the Practice Guide on Cross-Border Insolvency Cooperation was a key and very timely achievement of UNCITRAL’s forty-second session (held in Vienna, 29 June-17 July) during the time of the global economic crisis.
