SEABED ASSEMBLY DISCUSSES COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP; SOUTH PACIFIC COMMISSION GETS OBSERVER STATUS

KINGSTON, 23 March -- A completed draft of the mining code that will regulate exploration for polymetallic nodules in the deep seabed was presented this morning to the Council of the International Seabed Authority, meeting in Kingston.
KINGSTON, 17 March -- Tadeusz Bachleda-Curus (Poland), who was elected today as President of the Assembly of the International Seabed Authority for 1998, is Vice-Secretary and Principal Geologist of the State in the Ministry of Environment Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry of Poland.
KINGSTON, 16 March -- Joachim Koch (Germany), who was elected today as President of the Council of the International Seabed Authority for 1998, has headed since 1983 the Division for Legal Questions Relating to Economic Activities in the High Seas and Polar Regions, in the German Ministry of Economics.
KINGSTON, 16 March -- The International Seabed Authority opened its fourth annual session at Kingston this afternoon with meetings of its principal organs -- the 137-member Assembly and the 36-member Council.
