UN REPORT SAYS THOUSANDS IN SOMALIA THREATENED BY FOOD SHORTAGES


NEW YORK, 27 February (OCHA) -- More than 200,000 people in Somalia's northern and central regions face extreme food shortages due to a prolonged drought considered the worst in 30 years, a new report has warned.

RELIEF SUPPLIES BEING STOLEN FROM RECIPIENTS IN SUDAN

MILLIONS OF CHILDREN’S FUTURE BLIGHTED BY FUNDING CRISIS IN SOUTHERN AFRICA


GENEVA, 26 February (OCHA) -– The future of millions of children in six southern African countries is being put in jeopardy by a massive lack of funds and international support for crucial aid projects, according to a warning issued today by eight United Nations agencies at the launch of the Mid Term Review of the Consolidated Appeal for southern Africa.

UNITED NATIONS TEAM ARRIVES AT MOROCCAN QUAKE SITE

GENEVA, 25 February (OCHA) -- A United Nations Disaster and Coordination Assessment (UNDAC) team has arrived in Morocco after a powerful earthquake killed more than 550 people in northern part of the country near the coastal city of Al Hoceima.  The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) dispatched the six-member team.

UN MISSION TRAVELS TO NORTHERN HAITI, FINDS


SERIOUS FUEL SHORTAGES DISRUPTING LIFE


PORT-AU-PRINCE, 24 February (OCHA) -- Serious shortages of fuel are badly affecting every day life in north and north-west Haiti.  This was one conclusion of the recent inter-agency mission that travelled to the cities of Port-de-Paix and Cap Haitien on 19 February.  Cap Haitien was taken over by rebel forces on 22 February.
