The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) today called on the country’s de facto Taliban authorities to immediately and fully restore nationwide Internet and telecommunications access. Since 16 September, Internet access has been interrupted or cut in many parts of Afghanistan, without prior notice.

A United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) report, released today, finds that one in five people globally do not expect to have the number of children they desire. Key drivers include the prohibitive cost of parenthood, job insecurity, housing, concerns over the state of the world and the lack of a suitable partner.

In Ecuador, a UN team arrived on 24 March to support authorities to respond to the environmental emergency caused by a major oil spill. The spill in the Esmeraldas Province, in the country’s north-west, has contaminated key water sources, leaving half a million people without access to safe water and sanitation.
