Security Council
Arnoldo Manuel Listre (Argentina) succeeds Richard Holbrooke (United States) as President of the Security Council.
Military Staff Committee
Council Concludes Month Dedicated to African Issues; Deputy Secretary General, President of Zambia Also Speak
The Security Council this morning extended the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) until 31 July.
The Security Council this afternoon decided to refer the application of Tuvalu to the Committee on the Admission of New Members for examination and report. That action was taken under the provisions of rule 59 of the Council's provisional rules of procedure.
The Security Council this afternoon expressed its determination to support implementation of the July 1999 Lusaka Ceasefire Agreement in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its intention to act promptly along the lines recommended by the Secretary-General in his report to the Council.
