The Permanent Representative of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, held a press conference at Headquarters yesterday on the investigation carried out by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), at the request of the Security Council, as well as Cuba and the United States, concerning the downing of two aircrafts on 24 February.

In view of the urgent need for humanitarian aid to Iraq, the Security Council Committee established to monitor the sanctions against Iraq was working to conclude deliberations on draft expedited procedures to implement resolution 986 (1995), Committee Chairman Tono Eitel (Germany) told correspondents at a Headquarters briefing yesterday afternoon.

The Permanent Representative of Ukraine, Anatoli M. Zlenko, this morning announced that his country had, on 1 June, completed "a crucial event in the process of denuclearization of the world": the withdrawal of all its nuclear weapons to the territory of the Russian Federation, for future dismantling under the supervision of Ukrainian observers.
