At 10 a.m., the Council hold its 60-day briefing on the situation in Libya. Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Hanna Serwaa Tetteh will brief on recent political, security and humanitarian developments in the country.

The Security Council will hold an open debate on women, peace and security titled “Peace is Decided with Women: Emerging from conflict by enhancing their participation”. Minister for Foreign Affairs Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio of Colombia is expected to chair the meeting, with briefings anticipated by UN Women Executive Director Sima Sami Bahous and a civil society representative.

The Special Committee on Decolonization continue its two-week substantive session today, taking up the question of Western Sahara.

The Security Council will hear a briefing on the situation in Yemen. UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg and Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher are expected to brief.

At 10 a.m., the Security Council will hear a briefing on Afghanistan. Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (Political) and Officer-in-Charge of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Georgette Gagnon is expected to brief. UNAMA was established by resolution 1401 (2002). Its mandate has been altered over time to reflect the needs of the country and was extended for one year on 16 March 2026 by resolution 2818 (2026).

The Special Committee on Decolonization will begin its two-week substantive session today. It will discuss dissemination of information on decolonization, information from the Non-Self-Governing Territories under its purview transmitted under Article 73 e of the UN Charter, the question of sending visiting and special missions to these Territories and the question of these Territories themselves. They: Gibraltar, Tokelau, American Samoa, Anguilla, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, French Polynesia, Guam, Montserrat, New Caledonia, Pitcairn, Saint Helena, Turks and Caicos Islands and the United States Virgin Islands.

At 10 a.m., the Security Council will hold its semi-annual debate on the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT). President of the International Residual Mechanism Graciela Gatti Santana and Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz are expected to brief. The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals was established by Security Council resolution 1966 (2010) to handle the remaining functions of two major war crimes tribunals: The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. It operates from two branches in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania, and The Hague, Netherlands.

The Security Council will hold a high-level open debate on “Advancing Political Solutions in the Middle East: Mediation and Dialogue for Lasting Peace". Colombian President Gustavo Petro Urrego is expected to chair the meeting, which is one of the signature events of Colombia’s June Council presidency. It has prepared a concept note to guide the discussions on the topic, S/2026/454. UN Secretary-General António Guterres is the anticipated briefer.

This morning, the Security Council will hold a briefing and consultations on the Secretary-General’s semi-annual report on the UN Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA) and the implementation of the UN’s regional strategy to combat the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). Assistant Secretary-General for Africa in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations Martha Ama Pobee is expected to brief. UNOCA’s mandate expires on 31 August 2027.

This afternoon, the Security Council is expected to discuss the activities of its Committee established pursuant to resolution 1737 (2006), which oversees sanctions measures related to Iran’s nuclear programme.
