This afternoon, the Security Council will hold a briefing on the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including the work of the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO). Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Head of MONUSCO James Swan is expected to brief for the first time since his appointment in March. Rwanda is expected to participate in the meeting under rule 37 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure.

At 10 a.m., the Security Council will hear a briefing on Sudan. Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Hannan Sulieman are expected to brief.

At 3 p.m., the Security Council will vote on a draft resolution renewing the mandate of the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), which expires on 30 June. UNDOF was established following the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement between Israel and Syria, which ended the Yom Kippur War. Its mandate is to maintain the ceasefire between the parties and supervise the disengagement of Israeli and Syrian forces, as well as the areas of separation and limitation in the Golan.

The General Assembly will hold a joint debate on the annual report A/80/617 of the Peacebuilding Commission and the Secretary-General's report A/80/651 on the Peacebuilding Fund. It will also elect a member from the Latin American and Caribbean Group to fill the remaining vacancy on the 54-member Economic and Social Council. Also, the Assembly is expected to take action on a draft resolution A/80/L.54 and draft decision A/80/L.76 on the culture of peace as well as a draft decision A/80/L.78 on improving global road safety.

The Security Council will hold its annual open debate on children and armed conflict on the theme “Reasserting international legal protections for children in armed conflict: strengthening the protection of education and the prevention of grave violations”. Colombia, Council President for June, has prepared a concept note to guide the discussion. Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict Vanessa Frazier will present the Secretary-General’s annual report on the subject S/2026/357. Briefings are also expected from UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director Catherine Russell and a youth civil society representative.

On Tuesday morning, the Security Council will hear a briefing on the Central African Republic, including the work of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the Central African Republic and Head of MINUSCA Valentine Rugwabiza, and the Chair of the Central African Republic configuration of the Peacebuilding Commission, Ambassador Omar Hilale (Morocco), are expected to brief.

The Security Council is expected to vote at 10 a.m. on a draft resolution on accountability for crimes committed against UN peacekeepers. The draft was authored by non-permanent Council members Denmark and Pakistan, who have made peacekeeping a key priority during their 2025-2026 tenure on the 15-member organ. At least 100 Member States have co-sponsored the text, which is open for co-sponsorship from the wider UN membership.

The Security Council will hold an open briefing on Ukraine at 3 p.m. The meeting was requested by Ukraine requested in a 15 June letter and supported by Council members Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, and the United Kingdom. Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations Mohamed Khaled Khiari and Director of the Crisis Response Division at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Edem Wosornu are expected to brief. Ukraine and several countries from the region are expected to participate as well under rule 37 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure.

At 10 a.m., the Security Council will hear a briefing on Syria. Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Claudio Cordone and Acting Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Indrika Ratwatte are expected to brief.

At 3 p.m., the Security Council will hear a briefing on the Middle East and the Palestinian question. The Council's 10 non-permanent members requested the meeting, with support from four of the five permanent members -- China, France, Russian Federation and the United Kingdom -- and a focus on the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher and a representative of an international non-governmental organization are expected to brief.
