At 10 a.m., the Security Council will hear a briefing on Ukraine following two major waves of drone and missile attacks, overnight 1-2 July and 5-6 July, by the Russian Federation on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.

The Security Council will hold a day-long open debate on women and peace and security titled "honoring the promise of international law to survivors of conflict-related sexual violence". One of the signature events of the presidency of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, it will be chaired by the Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka. Ambassador Mukongo Ngay has prepared a concept note S/2026/545 for the debate. UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict Pramila Patten and one or more civil society representatives are expected to brief.

At 10 a.m., the General Assembly will hold its a debate on "the necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba". The Assembly last held a debate on the topic on 28 and 29 October 2025.

At 10 a.m., the General Assembly will hold a day-long debate on the responsibility to protect and the prevention of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. The Assembly has before it the Secretary-General's latest report on the topic (document A/80/716-S/2026/362), prepared pursuant to Assembly resolution 75/277. The report analyses analyses the current context of atrocity crimes and sets out options for sustaining the commitment on the responsibility to protect at the national, regional and multilateral levels. It also proposes ways to embed prevention and protection perspectives into public policy during periods of stability, emerging risk, active crisis and post-conflict recovery.

The General Assembly will meet at 10 a.m. to debate a draft resolution concerning the ninth review of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. The Assembly first adopted the Strategy in 2006, and it has reviewed the document approximately every two years since then. During today's day-long debate, delegates will have before them the Secretary-General's latest report on UN system efforts to implement the Strategy.

The Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) will conclude the second part of its resumed eightieth session, taking action on several draft resolutions. Following that meeting, the General Assembly will meet to act on the approved Fifth Committee reports. The Fifth Committee's session began 4 May and focused on the administrative and budgetary aspects of financing UN peacekeeping operations, as well as on improving the UN's financial situation.

The Security Council will discuss allegations by Belarus that a 17 June Ukrainian drone strike had hit a bus carrying Belarusian schoolchildren in the Russian Federation's Bryansk region, killing a woman accompanying the children and injuring eight people, including six children. Belarus requested the meeting in a 26 June letter to the Council. Moscow supported the meeting request. Vanessa Frazier, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, will brief as will a representative of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. Belarus will participate under rule 37 of the Council's rules of procedure.

Ramiz Alakbarov, Deputy Special Coordinator and Resident Coordinator at the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, will present the latest update on the implementation of Council resolution 2334 (2016).
