The Security Council holds an open debate on "natural resources governance: the foundation of peace, security and prosperity”.
At 10 a.m., the Council will vote on a draft resolution extending the monthly reporting requirement for the Secretary-General on attacks by the Houthis in Yemen on merchant and commercial vessels in the Red Sea. The text extends the reporting obligation - established by resolution 2722 (2024) and last renewed through resolution 2812 (2026) - for another six months, until 15 January 2027.
The Security Council will hear a briefing this morning on West Africa and the Sahel. Special Representative and Head of the UN Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) Leonardo Santos Simão will present the Secretary-General’s latest report, S/2026/537, which covers developments from 29 November 2025 to 30 June 2026.
