The Security Council holds an open debate on "natural resources governance: the foundation of peace, security and prosperity”.

At 10 a.m., the Security Council will hear a briefing on political and humanitarian developments in Syria. Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Claudio Cordone and Director of the Crisis Response Division at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Edem Wosornu are expected to brief.

The General Assembly will hold a high-level meeting on Improving Global Road Safety and take action on a declaration tracking progress in that area, A/80/L.95. Held 20-21 July, the overall theme of the meeting will be “Scaling up and accelerating implementation of commitments to halving road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030.” The event will bring together Government leaders and experts and officials of the UN, civil society, academia, the private sector and philanthropic foundations to advance progress in meeting the goal of halving road deaths and injuries by 2030 that was agreed in the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The General Assembly will discuss and adopt resolution A/80/L.89 containing the “Political Declaration to Renew Commitment and Accelerate the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda”.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) Deputy Prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan will provide the semi-annual briefing to the Security Council on the ICC’s activities related to the situation in Darfur.

At 4 p.m., the Economic and Social Council will conclude its high-level political forum on sustainable development, with Member States expected to take action on a ministerial declaration.

At 10 a.m., the Security Council will hear a briefing on Colombia. Special Representative and Head of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia Miroslav Jenča is expected brief on recent developments and the Secretary-General’s latest report (document S/2026/528).
