Background Release

NEW YORK, 22 January (Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea) — The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf will hold its sixtieth session from 22 January to 8 March at United Nations Headquarters in New York. During the session, plenary meetings will be held from 29 January to 2 February and from 26 February to 1 March. The remainder of the session will be devoted to the technical examination of submissions by subcommissions in the Division premises, including geographic information systems laboratories and other technical facilities.

The thirty-third Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea will be resumed at Headquarters on 28 November, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., for the purpose of filling seats in the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf allocated to the members of the Commission from Eastern European States.

The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf will hold its fifty-ninth session from 4 October to 21 November.

The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf will hold its fifty-eighth session from 5 July to 22 August 2023.

The thirty-third Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea will convene at United Nations Headquarters from 12 to 16 June.

The Review Conference on the Agreement for the Implementation of the Provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 10 December 1982 relating to the Conservation and Management of Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks will be resumed from 22 to 26 May at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Special Committee on Decolonization will hold the 2023 Pacific Regional Seminar in Bali, Indonesia, from 24 to 26 May within the framework of the fourth International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism (2021-2030).

The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf will hold its fifty-seventh session from 23 January to 10 March.

The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf will hold its fifty-sixth session from 5 October to 22 November.  There will be no plenary part during the session and its seven weeks will be devoted entirely to the technical examination of submissions at the geographic information system laboratories and other technical facilities of the Division.
