Security Council 2374 Committee concerning Mali Holds Meeting to Consider Midterm Report of Its Panel of Experts
On 8 February 2022, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2374 (2017) concerning Mali held informal consultations to consider the midterm report of the Panel of Experts on Mali, submitted in accordance with paragraph 4 of resolution 2590 (2021).
The Committee heard a presentation by the Coordinator of the Panel, who was joined by the other experts via video teleconference. During the informal consultations, the Coordinator of the Panel of Experts underlined that, for reasons beyond its control, the Panel could not provide substantive inputs in the report based on its methodology and stringent standards of investigation. However, the members of the Panel took the opportunity to present an overview of the work of the Panel in the following months, leading up to the submission of the final report in July 2022. The presentation was followed by an interactive discussion between Committee members and the Panel of Experts.
Committee members acknowledged the geographic balance and gender parity in the Panel’s composition and expressed their appreciation to the Secretariat for its support to make it possible.
Following the Panel’s submission of its midterm report to the Security Council no later than 28 February 2022, the report will be issued as a document of the Security Council, and it will be available in all official languages on the 2374 Committee’s webpage: https://www.un.org/securitycouncil/sanctions/2374/panel-experts/reports.
