Greater Public Engagement, Bold Voices Critical to Transforming Education, Deputy Secretary-General Tells Summit Event

Following is the text of UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed’s video message to the High-level Transforming Education Summit Conversation, in New York today:

Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen, I thank the Government of Denmark and LEGO Foundation for hosting this event.  Many thanks as well to our trusted partners — UNICEF [United Nations Children’s Fund], the Global Partnership on Education, Education Cannot Wait and the World Bank — for their unwavering support to the Transforming Education Summit.

Together, we have experienced an amazing three days.  So many vibrant ideas, infused with so much energy.  Strong commitments from Heads of States and real momentum towards realizing a common vision for transforming education.

But our work does not stop here.  We need greater public engagement.  We need bold voices to strengthen our global movement — a movement for action, transformation and accountability.

A harbinger of innovation, LEGO is an inspiring leader in the education landscape and a key partner on this journey of transformation.  We count on your ideas, energy and creative force to help propel our movement forward.

I urge you to reach out to your partners across the private sector and civil society and engage new constituencies — from students and parents to teachers across the world.

Together, let us seize the momentum gained from the Summit and, by transforming education, transform our world.

Thank you.
