Security Council Renews Committee Monitoring Nuclear, Chemical, Biological Weapons, Unanimously Adopting Resolution 2572 (2021)

The Security Council today renewed the mandate of its committee monitoring implementation of a resolution that aims to prevent non-State actors from acquiring nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, and their means of delivery.

Unanimously adopting resolution 2572 (2021) and acting under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, the Council extended, until 28 February 2022, the mandate of the Committee established pursuant to resolution 1540 (2004).

By the text, the Council further decided that the Committee should continue to conduct and complete the comprehensive review on the status of implementation and submit its conclusions.

The mandate rollover followed a postponement of the comprehensive review due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
