Concluding Session, Special Peacekeeping Operations Committee Approves Draft Report Containing Proposals, Recommendations
The Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations today approved a draft report on its 2021 substantive session, concluding its work.
Special Committee Rapporteur Abdullah Ibrahim Abdelhamid Alsayed Attelb (Egypt) introduced the draft report (document A/AC.121/2021/L.3), which contains proposals, recommendations and conclusions submitted by the Working Group of the Whole on a range of peacekeeping issues. The Committee is tasked with reviewing and providing recommendations to the General Assembly on such matters.
Delegates, including Japan’s representative, voiced their appreciation for the work accomplished amid hybrid working arrangements as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, Morocco’s delegate, speaking on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement, recalled that this session marks the second year that the Special Committee has completed its work via the new arrangements, adding that members anticipate a fruitful summer session to review working methods.
Special Committee Chair Tijjani Muhammad-Bande (Nigeria), in closing remarks, commended participants and Secretariat staff for a constructive session.
The session began at Headquarters on 15 February.
