New Permanent Representative of Guinea-Bissau Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Guinea-Bissau to the United Nations, Henrique Adriano Da Silva, presented his credentials to the Secretariat today.

Before his latest appointment, Mr. Da Silva served as his country’s Ambassador to Nigeria and Permanent Representative to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission since 2017.

Between 2014 and 2017, he was Director General of External Policy in Guinea-Bissau’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and the Communities, having served as political and diplomatic adviser to the President.

From 2010 to 2012, Mr. Da Silva held various positions in the Foreign Ministry, including adviser to the Minister, Director of the Minister’s Cabinet and Director of the Department for Planning and Studies.

He was Ambassador to Belgium from 2006 until 2010, also accredited to the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany and Switzerland, as well as to Guinea-Bissau’s Mission to the European Union and the European Council.

From 1998 to 2006, Mr. Da Silva served as Chargé d’affaires at his country’s Embassy in the United States, concurrently accredited to Canada and Mexico, after having served as Minister Counsellor from 1996 until 1998.

A Member of Parliament between 1994 and 1996, Mr. Da Silva previously held several senior positions in the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, among others.

Born in 1956, he holds a master’s degree in international relations from Edvard Kardelj University in Slovenia and a bachelor’s in political science from Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal.
