Secretary-General Condemns Deadly Attack against Health Centre in Democratic Republic of Congo
The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres:
The Secretary-General condemns the attack against a health centre in Butembo in the North Kivu Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo that resulted in the death of one staff member of the World Health Organization (WHO) and two people wounded.
The Secretary-General extends his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and wishes a swift recovery to the injured. He calls on the Congolese authorities to spare no effort in identifying and swiftly bringing to justice the perpetrators of this attack.
The Secretary-General expresses his solidarity with the people and Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and reiterates the determination of the United Nations system to continue their work in support of the Congolese authorities to bring the Ebola outbreak to an end.
