Adopting Resolution 2501 (2019), Security Council Extends Mandate of Team Monitoring Sanctions against Taliban-linked Entities in Afghanistan

The Security Council decided today to extend for 12 months the mandate of the team monitoring sanctions against individuals and entities associated with the Taliban, reiterating the need to ensure that the measures contribute to security and reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Unanimously adopting resolution 2501 (2019), the 15-nation Council directed the Monitoring Team to gather information on instances of non‑compliance with the measures and to keep the Sanctions Committee informed of its findings.

The Council highlighted the importance of ensuring that the Monitoring Team receives the necessary administrative and substantive support to effectively, safely and in a timely manner, including with regard to duty in high‑risk environments.
