Security Council Committee Established Pursuant to Resolution 2048 (2012) Holds Informal Consultations on its Chair’s Visit to Bissau in October 2019
On 27 November 2019, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2048 (2012) concerning Guinea‑Bissau held informal consultations to receive a briefing from the Chair on his most recent trip to Bissau (28‑30 October 2019) and discuss the way forward.
The purpose of the visit was to obtain first‑hand accounts concerning the effective implementation of the sanctions measures imposed by Security Council resolution 2048 (2012), to discuss the progress in the restoration of constitutional order in Guinea‑Bissau in light of the upcoming presidential election, and to encourage relevant stakeholders to continue respecting the constitutional order.
The Chair briefed members and the Committee discussed recommendations on possible future initiatives to keep the situation in the country monitored.
