Secretary-General Condemns Recurrent Terrorist Attacks in Nigeria

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres:

The Secretary-General condemns the recurrent attacks by terrorists and other extremist groups in northern Nigeria, causing heavy casualties among the civilian population, the security forces and disrupting normal life.  He extends his heartfelt condolences to the Government of Nigeria and to the families of those who have lost their life.  Those who violate international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law must be held accountable.

The United Nations stands in solidarity with the Government of Nigeria in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
