Security Council 1988 Sanctions Committee Revises Its Guidelines
On 3 December 2018, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1988 (2011) adopted revised Guidelines for the Conduct of its Work (“Guidelines”). The Guidelines were revised in compliance with paragraph 43 of Security Council resolution 2255 (2015), which directed the Committee to review its Guidelines.
A number of sections have been amended, including the sections on Cooperation with the Government of Afghanistan (Section 5), Delisting (Section 8), Exemptions to the Assets Freeze (Section 12) and Exemptions to the Travel Ban (Section 13).
In addition, a number of technical amendments have been included with a view to enhancing accuracy and consistency throughout the text and clarifying Committee practice.
The Committee has adopted the revised Guidelines to facilitate the conduct of its own work and provide useful guidance to Member States in their efforts to implement the relevant Security Council resolutions, including resolution 2255 (2015). The revised Guidelines are available on the Committee’s website (www.un.org/sc/suborg/en/sanctions/1988/guidelines) in all official languages.
