Security Council Adopts 2017 Annual Report to General Assembly
The Security Council adopted its annual report to the General Assembly today for the period 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2017.
Yao Shaojun (China), noting that his country coordinated the report’s introduction, recalled that the Council has adopted the practice of covering a calendar year. When summarizing its activities, China made utmost efforts to provide background information as a way to improve the transparency of the Council’s work. During the report’s drafting, his delegation solicited the views of relevant United Nations members. Noting that the introduction has been approved by all Council members, he said that upon its adoption, the report will be submitted to the General Assembly for review. He expressed hope it will be a beneficial reference for Council members, the United Nations membership and the Secretariat in work to maintain international peace and security.
The Council unanimously adopted the report; the action will be reflected in a note by the President, to be issued as document S/2018/797.
