Palestinian Rights Committee Will Hold Special Meeting to Observe International Day of Solidarity, 28 November
The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will hold a special meeting on 28 November to observe the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in the Trusteeship Chamber from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Speakers at the special meeting will include Cheikh Niang, Chairman of the Committee; María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés (Ecuador), President of the General Assembly; Ma Zhaouxu (China), President of the Security Council; António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations; Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations; and M. Shahrul Ikram Yaakob, Vice-Chair of the United Nations Special Committee on Illegal Israeli Practices, as well as other representatives of intergovernmental and civil society organizations, notably Marc Lamont Hill, social activist and host of BET News and political contributor for CNN. The meeting in New York will be webcast at http://webtv.un.org.
All Member States and observers have been invited to attend the special meeting, as have United Nations family organizations, intergovernmental and civil society organizations. The meeting is open to the media. The proceedings — including messages of solidarity with the Palestinian people received in connection with the Day’s observance — will be posted on the website of the Division for Palestinian Rights of the United Nations Secretariat.
Also, the Committee, in cooperation with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations, will present a cultural exhibit entitled Unrealized Rights, Unfulfilled Promises: 70 Years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and of the Palestinian People’s Nakba from 29 November 2018 to 4 January 2019. An opening ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, 29 November, in the Public Lobby of the General Assembly Building, during which the Chairman of the Palestinian Rights Committee, a representative of the State of Palestine and a representative of the Secretary-General will deliver remarks.

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is an annual observance that was called for by General Assembly resolution 32/40 B on 2 December 1977 to commemorate the Assembly’s adoption of resolution 181 (II) on 29 November 1947 partitioning the mandate of Palestine into two States. Events commemorating this date are held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, as well as United Nations Offices in Geneva, Nairobi and Vienna and other cities around the world.
