Activities of Secretary-General in Italy, 26-27 May

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Sicily from New York on Friday morning, 26 May, to attend the Group of 7 Summit in Taormina.

On Friday evening, the Secretary-General participated in a welcome concert offered by the Government of Italy in Taormina’s ancient Greek theatre.  Immediately afterwards, the Secretary-General joined the other leaders at an official dinner.

On Saturday, he spoke at the outreach session of the G7 Summit.  The focus of the discussion was “Innovation and Sustainable Development in Africa”. (See Press Release SG/SM/18544.)

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Secretary-General met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan.

Mr. Guterres departed Sicily on Saturday afternoon.
