Condemning ‘Cowardly’ Rafah Terrorist Attack, Secretary-General Reiterates Support for Egypt’s Fight against Terrorism, Violent Extremism

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres:

The Secretary-General condemns the terrorist attack that took place on 7 July against a checkpoint in Rafah, Egypt.  He conveys his condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Egypt, and wishes speedy recovery to those injured.

The Secretary-General hopes those responsible for today’s cowardly act will be swiftly brought to justice.

The Secretary-General reiterates the United Nations’ support to the Government of Egypt in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
