Security Council Presidential Statement Says No Changes Required to Sanctions against Taliban Affiliates ‘At This Time’
Having reviewed the implementation of measures outlined in resolution 2255 (2015) on its sanctions against Taliban affiliates, the Security Council stated today that no further adjustments were necessary “at this time”.
Issuing presidential statement S/PRST/2017/15, the Council requested that the Monitoring Team submit two additional annual, comprehensive, independent reports, as outlined in Annex 1 of resolution 2255 (2015), to the Committee established pursuant to resolution 1988 (2011) beginning on 30 April 2018. The Council would continue to evaluate the implementation of those measures and to make adjustments, as necessary, in support of peace and stability in Afghanistan, according to the statement.

“The Security Council has reviewed the implementation of the measures outlined in UN Security Council resolution 2255 (2015). No further adjustments to the measures outlined in resolution 2255 (2015) are necessary at this time. The Security Council requests the Monitoring Team to submit two additional annual, comprehensive, independent reports, as outlined in Annex 1 of resolution 2255 (2015), to the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1988 (2011), beginning on 30 April 2018. The Security Council will continue to evaluate the implementation of the measures outlined in resolution 2255 (2015) and make adjustments, as necessary, to support peace and stability in Afghanistan.”
