Security Council Committee concerning Libya Considers Final Report of Its Panel of Experts

On 19 May 2017, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1970 (2011) concerning Libya held informal consultations to consider the final report of the Panel of Experts, submitted pursuant to paragraph 13 of resolution 2278 (2016).

The Panel of Experts provided an overview of its final report, covering the following areas:  cooperation with stakeholders; political and security developments in Libya; implementation of the arms embargo, assets freeze, travel ban and the measures in relation to attempts to illicitly export crude oil from Libya; financing of armed groups; misappropriation of State funds; and unity of State institutions.

The Panel presented 16 recommendations, each of which were individually discussed by the Committee members thereafter.  Consideration of follow-up actions to those recommendations is ongoing.

During the informal consultations, Committee members expressed their support and appreciation for the work of the Panel of Experts and encouraged the Panel to intensify efforts to assist the Committee in carrying out its mandate.
