New Permanent Representative of Bahamas Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of the Bahamas to the United Nations, Sheila Carey, presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Before her latest appointment, Ms. Carey resumed her position as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration in June 2015 after three years as Chargé d’affaires in her country’s Embassy in China.  First appointed that Ministry’s Permanent Secretary in June 2007, she previously served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, and in the Ministry of Financial Services and Investments.

A career foreign service officer, Ms. Carey joined the then Ministry of External Affairs in September 1978 and served in her country’s High Commission in Canada as well as its Embassy in Washington, D.C., where she served concurrently as Alternate Representative to the Organization of American States.

Ms. Carey holds a degree in international relations from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, and a degree in economics from Florida International University in Miami, in the United States.
