New Permanent Representative of Norway Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Norway to the United Nations, Tore Hattrem, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.
Prior to his new appointment, Mr. Hattrem was Special Adviser to the United Nations Department in Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as State Secretary/Deputy Foreign Minister from 2015 to 2016, and as Director General of the Ministry’s Department of Regional Affairs from 2012 to 2015.
Mr. Hattrem was Ambassador to Afghanistan between 2010 and 2012, and to Sri Lanka from 2007 to 2010. Prior to that, he was Deputy Director General and Head of the Foreign Ministry’s Section for Peace and Reconciliation from 2002 to 2007. From 2000 to 2002 he served as Adviser to the United Nations Security Council Unit, and from 1997 to 2000 he was First Secretary at Norway’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the World Trade Organization in Geneva.
Over the course of his 25-year-long Government career, Mr. Hattrem was also a Senior Executive Officer in the Ministry of Finance and an officer in the Norwegian Armed Forces before joining the Foreign Ministry.
He holds a master’s degree in political science from the University of Oslo and graduated from the Norwegian Officer Candidate School in 1982.
Born on 23 August 1962, Mr. Hattrem is married and has three children.
