New Permanent Representative of Ecuador Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations, Diego Morejón-Pazmiño, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Before his latest appointment, Mr. Morejón-Pazmiño was his country’s Ambassador to Germany from 2016 to 2017, having previously served as Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Chargé d’affaires between 2008 and 2014.

From 2014 to 2015, he was Undersecretary for Trans-regional and Supra-regional International Organizations, and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, a position he also held on several occasions between 2000 and 2005.  He also served as Deputy Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs during that period.

Among other appointments, Mr. Morejón-Pazmiño was Director General for Immigration in the Foreign Ministry from 2007 to 2008, and Chef de Cabinet to the Minister for Foreign Affairs between 2005 and 2007.  He was Minister-Counsellor at Ecuador’s Embassy in Germany from 2000 to 2005, when he also served as Chargé d’affaires ad interim on several occasions within that period.

Mr. Morejón-Pazmiño was First Secretary at the Embassy in Chile from 1992 to 1993, Second Secretary in Bonn, Germany, between 1987 and 1989 and Third Secretary at that station from 1985 to 1987.

He holds a Juris Doctor degree as well as a degree in political and social sciences from Ecuador’s Central University.

Mr. Morejón-Pazmiño is married and has three children.
