New Permanent Representative of Slovenia Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the United Nations, Darja Bavdaž Kuret, presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Prior to her appointment, Ms. Kuret was State Secretary in Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2017.  She had previously served in New Delhi as Ambassador to India between 2013 and 2015, with concurrent accreditation to Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka from 2014 and 2015.

Ms. Kuret was Ambassador to Bulgaria between 2009 to 2013, having served in 2008 as Coordinator and Chair of the European Union-Capitals Working Group Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Belarus during Slovenia’s presidency of the European Union Council.  She was Secretary-General of the Bled Strategic Forum from 2006 to 2008.

A career diplomat, Ms. Kuret was Ambassador to Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Latvia between 2002 and 2006, and Head of the Department for Analysis and Planning in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2000 to 2001.  She was Ambassador to Israel with accreditation to the Palestinian Authority from 1995 until 1999.

Ms. Kuret holds a degree in social sciences from the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia.
