New Permanent Representative of Nigeria Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations, Tijjani Muhammad Bande, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Bande served as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, Nigeria, from 2010 to 2016.  He was Vice-Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto, Nigeria, between 2004 and 2009.  From 2000 until 2004, he served as Director-General of the African Training and Research Centre in Administration for Development, based in Tangier, Morocco.

Awarded Nigeria’s Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic in 2005, Mr. Bande holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto, Canada, having previously earned a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, from Boston University, United States, and Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria, respectively.

Born on 7 December 1957, he is married and has four children.
