Secretary-General, in Message to Eco Forum, Welcomes China’s Commitment to Expand Global Cooperation towards Reaching Sustainable Development Goals

Following is the text of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s video message to the Eco Forum global annual conference, in Guiyang, China, today:

It is a pleasure to send my greetings to the Guiyang Eco Forum.  Last year, the international community adopted two historic accords — the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

I commend China for its strong leadership in ensuring success.  I am encouraged that China has incorporated these agreements into national policy.

China has established the thirteenth five-year plan that embraces five key elements, including innovation, harmonization, green development, openness and shared prosperity.  I also welcome China’s commitment to expand international cooperation to ensure all countries can achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The United Nations looks forward to continuing to work with China to help build a people-centred, planet-friendly pathway to our shared future.  Please accept my best wishes for the success of the Eco Forum in Guiyang.
