Security Council Committee on Democratic Republic of Congo Meets with Representatives from 8 Neighbouring States
On 10 October 2016, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1533 (2004) concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo met with representatives of Burundi, Central African Republic, Congo, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, United Republic of Tanzania and Uganda.
During the meeting, the Chair of the Committee encouraged the invited States to provide views in connection with the final report of the Group of Experts (document S/2016/466) and provided a briefing regarding his trip to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda from 1 to 6 August 2016. The Chair said his visit to the regional capitals had been important and timely. He had encouraged interlocutors to raise issues of concern that were relayed to the Committee when he arrived in New York. The Chair continued to encourage officials to cooperate with the Group of Experts by facilitating their visits and providing relevant information, as appropriate. He expressed hope that the visit would serve to further facilitate strengthened cooperation and noted his willingness to continue meeting with relevant States.
The invited States welcomed the meeting and the opportunity to provide their views on the final report of the Group of Experts. They expressed the wish for more such meetings with the Committee. States also noted their willingness to cooperate with the Group of Experts and the Committee.
