Chair Briefs Security Council Sanctions Committee on Central African Republic on His Visit to Central African Republic

On 13 June 2016, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2127 (2013) concerning the Central African Republic held informal consultations to consider the report of the Chair’s visit to the Central African Republic, which took place from 25 to 27 May 2016.

The Chair provided an overview of the findings and recommendations contained in his report, which was conveyed to Committee members on 8 June 2016.  He noted that the visit had been useful to enhance cooperation and collaboration among the Central African Republic authorities, the Committee and the Panel of Experts, and had provided him with an opportunity to see first-hand the situation on the ground and to report his findings to the Committee.  The visit also allowed the newly elected national authorities to learn more about the sanctions measures, notably the arms embargo, and the overall work of the Committee.

Members of the Committee welcomed the Chair’s presentation of the visit report and looked forward to the follow-on actions to be considered by the Committee in connection with the report’s recommendations.
