‘We Are What We Eat’ Exhibition Opens at United Nations Headquarters on 6 May
A formal opening ceremony for the exhibition “We Are What We Eat” will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, 6 May, in the Visitors’ Lobby at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The exhibit is organized by The Jack Brewer Foundation, and endorsed by the Permanent Mission of Malawi to the United Nations.
During the ceremony, remarks will be made by Lot Dzonzi, Deputy Permanent Representative of Malawi to the United Nations; Jack Brewer, Founder and Executive Director of The Jack Brewer Foundation and Ambassador for Peace and Sport to the United States Federation for Middle East Peace; Sally Kader, President of United Federation for Peacekeeping and Sustainable Development; Aaron Levi Garvey, curator of the exhibition; and John Short, Chief Executive Officer of RiceBran Technologies. Cristina Gallach, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Chair of the Exhibitions Committee, will serve as master of ceremonies.
Through a variety of colourful mixed media artworks and thanks to data and infographics by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the exhibition focuses on the human right to food, namely food that is healthy and sustainably produced. The artwork on display underscores the need for sustainable agriculture, which is respectful of the animals and the environment, and highlight issues related to mass production, ultra-processed foods and global fast-food chains.
The exhibition includes works by five artists from five countries: Liu Bolin (China); Edward Burtynsky (Canada); Jim Draper (United States); Pepe López (Venezuela); and Vik Muniz (Brazil). Included in the exhibition is The Future, the work that Mr. Liu created for the United Nations to highlight the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
