Danny Danon (Israel) Chair of Sixth Committee

Danny Danon, Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations, was elected Chair of the Sixth Committee (Legal) on 13 June 2016 (see Press Release GA/11791).

Mr. Danon has been Permanent Representative since October 2015, prior to which he was Minister for Science, Technology and Space.  From 2013 to 2014, he served as Deputy Defence Minister, headed the Social Welfare Division and led the Reserves Division.

As Deputy Speaker of the Knesset (Parliament) from 2009 to 2012, Mr. Danon chaired the Committee on the Rights of Children; the Committee on Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs; and the Caucus for Israel Defence Forces Widows and Orphans.

He was also a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defence, Economic Affairs, Education, Constitution and Women’s Rights Committees.  As Chair of the World Likud organization from 2006 to 2015, he supported Israel’s public diplomacy efforts in the international arena.

Mr. Danon holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Florida International University and a master’s degree in public policy from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.

He is married and has three children.
