Vladimir Drobnjak (Croatia) Chair of Fourth Committee

Vladimir Drobnjak, Permanent Representative of Croatia to the United Nations, was elected Chair of the Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) on 13 June 2016 (see Press Release GA/11791).

Prior to his latest appointment, Mr. Drobnjak was Permanent Representative to the European Union in Brussels from February 2012 to June 2013.  Having begun his diplomatic career in 1992, as Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Mr. Drobnjak’s assignments since have included Assistant Minister and Head of the Division of Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Zagreb.

He was a member of the team negotiating Croatia’s Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union, and Chief Negotiator for the negotiations on the country’s accession to the bloc.

Mr. Drobnjak was a United States- and United Nations-based correspondent between 1988 and 1992, working for the Croatian daily newspapers Vjesnik and Večernji list, as well as for Croatian radio and television.  He was Editor-in-Chief of Sunday Vjesnik from 1986 to 1988.

Born on 5 March 1956 in Zagreb, Mr. Drobnjak was educated at the University of Zagreb School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctor degree.
