Sabri Boukadoum (Algeria) Chair of First Committee

Sabri Boukadoum, Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations, was elected Chair of the First Committee (Disarmament and International Security) on 13 June 2016 (see Press Release GA/11791).

From November 2009 until his appointment as Permanent Representative in December 2013, Mr. Boukadoum held the position of Director General for the Americas in his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  He served as Ambassador to Portugal between October 2005 and August 2009, having been Chief of Protocol in the Foreign Ministry since November 2001.  He was Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire from November 1996 to September 2001.

Mr. Boukadoum served as Director of Political Affairs between 1993 and 1995, having previously held the post of Assistant Director for Political Affairs, United Nations and Disarmament from 1992 to 1993.  He was a Counsellor in Algeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York between 1988 and 1992, and First Secretary in its Embassy in Budapest, Hungary, from 1987 to 1988.

A graduate of the École Nationale d’Administration — Diplomatic Section, Mr. Boukadoum was born on 1 September 1958.  He is married and has two children.
