New Permanent Representative of Mauritania Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Mauritania to the United Nations, Mohamed Lemine El Haycen, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. El Haycen was his country’s Ambassador to the United States from 2010 to 2015, resident in Washington, D.C., but accredited concurrently to Mexico.

Between 2000 and 2005, he was Vice President of the Mauritanian Federation of Tennis, as well as President of the Mauritania Chamber of Notaries.  From 1994 to 1999, he was Director General of the SMEF Fishing Corporation and Vice President of the Federation of Fishing Industries.

Trained as a lawyer, Mr. El Haycen holds degrees from the Université Sophia Antipolis in Nice, France, and the Institut Supérieur de Journalisme de Rabat, in Morocco.

Born in 1954, he is married and has six children.
