Saddened by Death of Force Commander for Central African Republic Mission, Secretary-General Praises General’s Commitment to Peacekeeping

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Major General Martin Chomu Tumenta of Cameroon, Force Commander of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

General Tumenta will be remembered for his commitment and dedication as Force Commander of MINUSCA, as well as the previous African-led International Support Mission in the Central African Republic (MISCA).

The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the family of General Tumenta and to the Government and people of Cameroon.
