Secretary-General Calls on Voters to Participate in Upcoming Côte d’Ivoire Presidential Election, Urges Peaceful Resolution of Remaining Disputes

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General is closely following developments in Côte d’Ivoire ahead of the presidential election which will take place on 25 October 2015.

The Secretary-General welcomes the continued commitment of national stakeholders to participate in the democratic process in a peaceful and transparent manner which will ensure that the electoral outcome reflects the will of the people of Côte d’Ivoire.  A successful electoral process is the responsibility of all concerned.  In this regard, the Secretary-General calls on all voters to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming election.  He reminds all political leaders and their constituents to continue to address any outstanding disputes through peaceful means in accordance with the laws and Constitution of Côte d’Ivoire.

The Secretary-General reiterates the commitment of the United Nations to supporting the electoral process in Côte d’Ivoire.
