Condemning Cameroon Bombings, Secretary-General Encourages Further Regional Cooperation to Counter Boko Haram

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General condemns the twin suicide bombings that targeted the city of Maroua, the capital of Cameroon’s Extreme North Province, on 22 July.

The Secretary-General extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Cameroon and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured in the terrorist attacks.

The Secretary-General reiterates his support for the Government of Cameroon and countries of the region and encourages them to further strengthen their cooperation in addressing the threat posed by Boko Haram, as well as ensuring strict compliance with international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law.
