Secretary-General Strongly Condemns Suicide Bombing in N’Djamena, Chad

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General strongly condemns the suicide bombing that targeted the central market in N’Djamena, Chad, yesterday, reportedly killing at least 15 people and injuring many more.  He extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Chad.  He wishes a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack.

This brutal attack against civilians during the month of Ramadan serves as a reminder to all of us that the scourge of terrorism knows no bounds.  The Secretary-General reiterates the importance of further collaboration among countries of the region to more effectively combat terrorism while adhering to international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law.
