Following is the text of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s video message to the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade, held in Gwangju, Republic of Korea, from 3 to 14 July:

안녕하세요  [Hello].

I am Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations.  I send my best wishes to all of you gathered in Gwangju for the twenty-eighth Summer Universiade Games.  I commend the Organizing Committee for its commitment.

Congratulations to the thousands of students who have come from around the world to celebrate education, culture and sports.  The United Nations deeply values sport as a catalyst for progress.  Athletic competitions promote friendship, understanding, respect and fair play.

Your Summer Universiade can help promote a more sustainable, just and peaceful future.  I wish you great success in the competition – and I urge you to stand together as global citizens.  When it comes to our planet, we are all on the same team.  Let us win by leaving a better world for generations to come.

Thank you, 감사합니다.
