Secretary-General Urges Investment in ‘People and the Planet’ in Video Message ahead of Financing for Development Event

Following is the text of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s video message on financing for development, broadcast today:

This year, we can make history by adopting an ambitious sustainable development agenda and a universal climate agreement.  But, without the right financing and policies, we cannot achieve our ambitions.  Commitments will remain solely words on paper.

That is why this July’s third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa is so crucial.  Addis Ababa can be the starting point for a new era of global partnership.  Everyone must play their part.  I count on world leaders to come to Addis Ababa and make the Conference a success.

Together, let us invest ahead — for people and the planet.
