Secretary-General appoints Martin Nesirky of the United Kingdom Director of United Nations Information Service in Vienna

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is pleased to announce the appointment of Martin Nesirky of the United Kingdom as Director of the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) in Vienna, Austria.  The Information Service also provides service to Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Mr. Nesirky assumed his new duties on 1 November 2014, after working on an acting basis since April 2014.

At the United Nations, Mr. Nesirky previously served as the Spokesperson for Secretary-General Ban, from December 2009 to April 2014.  Prior to that, he was the Spokesperson and Head of Press and Public Information for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) from April 2006 to December 2009.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Nesirky worked for several years with Thomson Reuters.  He was Bureau Chief in Seoul from August 2001 to March 2006; Bureau Chief in Moscow from June 1997 to August 2001; and Day Editor, Senior Correspondent, Correspondent and Journalist from September 1982 to June 1997.

Mr. Nesirky holds a bachelor’s degree in European studies from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom.  He is married and has two sons and two daughters.
