Security Council Sanctions Committee Concerning Central African Republic Convenes Meeting with Regional States

On 22 April 2015, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2127 (2013) concerning the Central African Republic held a meeting with the representatives of the Central African Republic and a number of regional States with a view to improving the implementation of the sanctions measures imposed by resolutions 2127 (2013) and 2134 (2014), as renewed by resolution 2196 (2015).

Regional States and Committee members welcomed the opportunity to exchange views with a view to improving the implementation of the sanctions measures, and all participants expressed their readiness to fully implement the measures contained in resolution 2196 (2015).

Committee members commended the continued efforts made by the Central African Republic and regional States in restoring peace and stability of the Central African Republic and promoting dialogue and reconciliation.  Committee members also stressed the critical importance of effective implementation of the sanctions regime and the key role that regional States, as well as regional and subregional organizations, can play in this regard, and encouraged efforts to further enhance cooperation with the Committee and the Panel of Experts.

Delegations also encouraged the Central African Republic and the regional States to utilize the travel ban exemption procedures set out in paragraphs 5 (a), (b) and (c) of resolution 2196 (2015), and to informally engage with the Secretariat for assistance in transmitting travel exemption requests to the Committee.

The Chair also expressed her readiness to convene further discussions with the representatives of the Central African Republic and the regional States regarding the implementation of the travel ban.
