Security Council Sanctions Committee Concerning Democratic Republic of Congo Convenes Meeting with Regional States, Hears Briefing by United Nations Mine Action Service

On 6 March 2015, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1533 (2004) (http://www.un.org/sc/committees/1533/) concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo held an exchange of views on the final report of the Group of Experts on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (document S/2015/19) with the representatives to the United Nations of Angola (on behalf of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region), Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, South Africa (on behalf of the Southern African Development Community), Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania.

The Chair of the Committee also asked for the views of Committee members, as well as the invited delegations regarding the priority issues to be raised during her visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda, which is tentatively scheduled to take place in May 2015, as well as concrete proposals that delegations may have with a view to strengthening the implementation of the Democratic Republic of the Congo sanctions regime, including requests for capacity-building assistance.

During the meeting, the Committee was also briefed by a representative of the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) regarding efforts to assist the Democratic Republic of the Congo authorities in the management and storage of arms and ammunition.
