Joint Opening Ceremony for Two Seventieth-Anniversary Photo Exhibitions to Be Held at Headquarters, 4 November

A joint opening ceremony for two photo exhibitions that mark the seventieth anniversary of the United Nations will be held in the Visitors’ Lobby at 6 p.m. on 4 November.  The shows are called “The United Nations at 70: Moments and Milestones” and “UN Headquarters: A Workshop for Peace”.

During the ceremony, remarks will be made by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon; Sebastiano Cardi, Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations; Cristina Gallach, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information; Manny Parks, Board Member of the International Photographic Council; Anne Fraser, United Nations Archives and Records Management Section, Department of Management; and Michael Meek, President and COO of Lifetouch.

“The United Nations at 70: Moments and Milestones” features a selection of iconic images and historical documents from the archives that showcase key moments in the Organization’s 70 years of existence.  The exhibition is organized by the Department of Public Information and the United Nations Archives and Records Management Section with the generous support of the International Photographic Council and Lifetouch.  The latter, a renowned photography and printing company, has also produced the accompanying exhibition catalogue.

“UN Headquarters: A Workshop for Peace” gives an overview of the planning, design and construction of the Headquarters building through archival images and photos of the recently renovated compound.  The exhibition is presented by the Department of Public Information with the generous support of the Permanent Mission of Italy.  Some of the images on display are featured in The United Nations at 70, Restoration and Renewal, a book recently published by Rizzoli International in collaboration with the United Nations.
